Clint Davis writes the following about The Giver :
I would rate The Giver a 4 out of 5 stars. I think that Lois Lowry's purpose for writing this novel is to purely entertain. The genre of this novel is science fiction. In this book, the author writes a message telling the reader that memories are very meanigful and powerful. I believe in that 100% because I have memories that I will never forget. I feel that the author did a very good job with the plot. I found that when I had questions that I would ask myself about the story, Lois would amswer. If I were the author, I would have made the book less choppy. I would make the novel flow better so that it made more sense the first time you read it.
The main character is Jonas. He is a 12 year old boy who gets the assignment of Receiver of Memory. It was an honor to be chosen out of all the other 12 year olds. The Receiver of Memory holds all of the memories so that the other people don't have to deal with the feelings that result from them. Jonas is a very interesting character. You would have to read this novel to see how interesting he really is. A person that would most likely enjoy this book is someone who likes to picture things in their minds. Lois uses a lot of imagery. If you need a book to read, read The Giver.
