I think lois Lowry's purpose for writing The Giver was to encourage kids to persevere and to never give up. I agree with lowry's purpose if people give up all the time, then nothing will ever get finished. I think Lowry did the best with her characters, because all of them seemed to fit their jobs perfectly and there wasn't a single person who seemed out of place. The main character in The Giver is 12/13 year old Jonas who is selected for an assignment that no one has gotten in ten years. If I had to create a new society, I wouldn't Jonas to help me. I wouldn't want him to help me because his community has no colors, feelings, music or animals in it. If there is anything that could've been better it was the ending. The ending is really a cliffhanger, and she could've made the story longer. I think the book was really kind of boring, and that some one who liked books that were somewhat boring would really like The Giver.
