The Tale of Despereaux By Rob Shilling “Happily ever after,” that is a quote from a book called The Tale of Despereux. That quote first comes into play when Despereaux is at a library reading a book. This book was written by Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by Timothy Ering. The Tale of Despereaux is about a unique mouse,very different from all of the other mice. He had a hard time fitting in. Roscuro, a different rat himself, was tricked into becoming evil. Mig, not the smartest person, wanted to be a princess after seeing how beautiful the current princess was. She went to the castle for a job and got one to serve the princess. Mig was tricked by Roscuro to go capture Pea, the princess. In the end Despereaux saves the day.
The theme of Despereaux would most likely be to never be afraid to follow your heart and don’t let other people change who you are. I thought this book was very interesting and suspenseful book. The main characters are unique from the other mice. I like characters that are diverse from other characters. I think that keeps the story more interesting. In Despereaux, I think the author made the characters very appealing and easy to visualize in your mind. This example might help you understand what I am talking about, “his eyes were as big as peas, ears big enough that a large bee could fit in his ear and his body as small as an ant.” That is about the fantastic book of Despereaux and my opinion of it.
