Imagine a perfect Thanksgiving afternoon with your whole family but one person, joy being spread, and dinner being cooked. The day is going by just about perfectly when all of sudden, disaster strikes in the form of a telephone ring. It is the president contacting your dad, and a madman in southern Argentina is threatening nuclear war. Then, your grandmother-in-law comes over and lays a charge on you to stop him. What do you do then? Well, in Charles Wallace's case, you use an old rune to call a time traveling unicorn and go back in time to stop him before war breaks loose.
Travel through time with Madeleine L' Engle as Charles Wallace attempts to stop Mad Dog Branzillo. The echtroi, beings that thrive off of evil and feed off of hatred, are out to stop him though, adn he has to figure out how to stop Mad Dog before they stop him. Meg kythes Charles Wallace, which is kind of like telekinesis times 10, and helps him through the difficulties he faces. "A Swiftly Tilting Planet" is an epic novel for the avid sci-fi/action enthusiasts. As you will learn through this book, sometimes it is best to just go with the flow and not try to control everything. Madeleine L' Engle describes the characters and settings unbelievably well. You will feel as if your in the book flying on Gaudior the Unicorn, or at Meg's bed kything Charles Wallace with her. I would strongly suggest reading the first two books, A Wrinkle in Time and A Wind in the Door, first because it will make a lot more sense if you do. They are also great books by Madeleine L’ Engle. If you like those, there are two more books in the series called Many Waters and An Acceptable Time.
