Amanda writes the following about Milkweed :
Milkweed is a very good book that is mainly describing the horrors of the Holocaust through the perspective of a little boy who doesn't know who he is, where he's from, or where his family is located. He steals food to survive. He's living on the streets and joins this band of odd boys who also steal to survive. The leader of the group is this man called Uri, who befriends the boy and teaches him things. Uri gives the boy a name and a past. He names him Misha and he is a Russian Gypsy who was stolen from his family during World War 2 beginning. The Nazis come and put all the jews and gypsies in concentration camps where they are tortured, murdered and starved to death. He sees a girl named Janina and her family who he's met before. He soon goes to live with Janina and her family and he imagines that they are his family. The Nazis get everyone into trains that are going to "a really nice place." Uri tells Misha not to get on the train and to take Janina and her family and run and keep running. Misha tries to get everybody to leave but it doesn't work out the way he wanted.
