Quiet Strength
By: Tony Dungy [Indianapolis Colts head coach]
This wonderful book is called Quiet Strength. It is written by Tony Dungy, Indianapolis Colts head coach. This book is an autobiography. He is a true believer in God. He inspires people in his book in different ways. He inspired me to never give up. I want to be a NFL player, and I'm never going to give up on that dream. His style is very understandable, personal, and it is very informative, detailed, and very clear. The theme is to never give up when you are in the toughest of times.
Tony Dungy puts all his life in his family and into the Lord. His mom, dad, and his son Jamie pass away in the book. I think it is really sad. He has faced death, but he never gives up in the toughest of times. There are a lot of happy things in the book, too.
I would truly recomend this book because it is very detailed and information about his life.
A really good quotation is when a person in the press asked him if he was going to change his game plan after losing to the same team, the Denver Broncos, two weeks before. Tony said,"We're going to do what we do, only do it better." They drilled the Broncos 41-10 in a playoff game.
One of the most trigging events in the book is when Lovie Smith and Tony were the first two African American head coaches to coach a superbowl game going into Superbowl XLI. Tony and the Colts won, so Tony was the first African American head coach to hold the Lambardi Trophy in his hands.
Tony use to be a a NFL player before he head coached with the Bucaneers and the Colts. He spent most of his career with the Pittsburg Steelers. Before head coaching, he was assistant coaches in Pittsburg, New York, Kansas City, and Minnesota.
The main problem in the story is when Tony couldn't win a super bowl, and it took him 10 years to win one.
My opinion is that this is a great book. He is a heavy believer in God. There is a lot of bible passages in the book, too. To me, Tony is one of the best NFL coaches in history.
