amyhale writes the following about Brothers in Valor: A Story of Resistance :
This is a fiction book, but is based on real things that happened during the Holocaust. It’s about three German teenagers who are members of the Mormon Church. These boys join forces with other young people to create a youth resistance movement during World War II, putting their lives at risk. The book starts out where the boys, Rudi, Helmuth, and Karl, best friends, are active members of their Mormon church. Soon though, other Sunday activities appear when the boys are forced to join the Hitler Youth. The boys quickly learn of the Nazi violence, and they see classmates disappear forever. They realize that they must act fast to resist the Nazis. The boys hand out illegal newspapers, and listen to illegal radio broadcast. They are finally caught. The rest of the book, the less subtle part, tells about their journeys to their deaths. This part does get graphic in some places. I would suggest it for more mature people. I really loved this book, but when I read it as a mature sixth grader, it took me a while to recover after reading it. It is based on real facts, and even though it is a fiction book things that are described really did happen. I would advise that you talk with someone who has read the book and/or your parents to see if they think that you should read this book.
