Out of the Dust was a book about a girl named Billie Jo. Billie Jo's father goes out drinking one day while her mother is pregnant with a baby boy. When he comes back, he leaves a pail of kerosene by the stove. So her Ma, fixing breakfast and thinking the pail was filled with water, lifted it to make Billie Jo's father cofee, she made a rope of FIRE. Her Ma ran out the door, calling for Billie Jo's father. Bilie Jo ran after her, but then thinking of the burning pail, flew back and grabbed it, throwing it out the door. She didn't know her Ma was coming back. The flaming oil, splashed on her apron and suddenly Ma was a column of FIRE!
This book has so many strengths that I can't name all of them. my favorite times were when it snowed and rained. Or when her mother died so you can see the hardships of life she had to go through without a mother to comfort her. This book had almost no weaknesses, but one is that her dad was so stubborn that it got annoying.
I would definetly reccomend this book.It can teach you many diferent ways of life. It is a fun way to learn about the dustbowl. This is a great historical-fiction book. If you don't like historical-fiction, this you will like ANYWAY!!!!!!
