Taylor writes the following about Out of the Dust (Newbery Medal Book) :
I loved this book!It was very exciting and fun to read!It was about a girl named Billie Jo.She lived in Oklahoma,1934-1935,during the Dust Bowl. The main characters were Billie Jo,Pa,and Ma.Billie Jo has some very hard times in her life. For instance, her and her Ma get burnt, her Ma dies, her brother dies, and other things I won't mention so i wan't spoil it for you.Even though all these things happen, Billie Jo still loves her piano! The piano is like a best friend to her! Will all her troubles ruin everything,or will it make everything perfect? You'll have to read the book to find out!! This book has some strenths and weaknesses, just like any other book. The author put a bunch of strenths in this book. For example, the author put a lot of figurative language in Out of the Dust.I think in the book,a weakness is that so many people pass away. That makes the book soooo sad. I absolutely recommend this book because it is a book where,if you read it,you won't to put it down. The genre of this book is historical fiction, but even if you don't like historical fiction, you will still love this book!Even though there are a lot of sad parts, you still should still read this book,Out of the Dust!!!
