Emily writes the following about Out of the Dust (Newbery Medal Book) :
This book is about a girl named Billie Joe who is 14. She becomes motherless when her mom was giving birth to her brother. She also becomes brotherless. Billie Joe and her dad grew apart. The one thing she loves to do was taking away mentally after the accident. It was like she didn't have any hands.
One of the strenghts for this book was the descriptive writing. To me there were no weaknesses. This was an excellent piece of writing.
I would recommend this book. It is a wonderful historical fiction book. It grabbed me in and made me feel like I was in the Dust Bowl. This is a very, very good book. I truly loved this book.
