Scott Hudson is finally graduating junior high. Scott and his friends Mitch, Patrick, and Kyle are all excited at the thought of becoming freshmen. But on the first day life takes a seemingly ugly turn when high school finally crushes Scott. Some people would say, what could go wrong? Only on the first day has Scott begun to lose his friends, been bullied, overloaded with honors homework, and forgotten by the girl of his dreams. Ouch. But high school is not his only problem when about a month later, his mom turns out to be pregnant. So Scott begins to write a journal to his still-in-the-womb baby brother, attempting to save his brother from what he is now suffering. Although Scott soon gains new friends with an almost emo girl and the school bully, he is not at all pleased with them. But soon Scott will learn to appreciate any friends in life and to appreciate his own life, because other unexpected people are not fairing as well…
I gave Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie a 9 not only because it has an amazing storyline, but because of the book’s morale. I’ll admit the hook didn’t get me hooked at all but after chapter one everything fell into place. I would change the beginning but everything else was great.
