Kitty Witty writes the following about Christy :
"Christy" is a good book in many ways. At nineteen Christy leaves her home town, Asheville, to be a school teacher in the Smokies but she soon finds out that it is no garden tea-party. As if walking 7 miles just to get there the pepole there have fierce pride, terrible poverty, and a longing for justice. Her schooling is not going to well either because she has 67 students in one class room all with different grades but when she tells the girls to sit with the boys so she can divide the class up they say "No ma'am this ain't no courtin' school my paw will through me out if you make it a courtin' school" and if you could possebly make things worse she has hogs living under the school! when she is there she meets the preacher(David Grantland) who built the schoolhouse/church and falls in love. This is a great Christan book and I invite you to laugh and cry with Christy. P.S I hope you like looooooooooooooooong books because this book is 501-691 pages long.
