Cassandra writes the following about The Child Called It :
The book "A Child Called It" is an extraordinary book that tells the life story of a young boy named David. David is about 5 years old when he starts to get tortured by his mother. She starts of by referring to him as "It". She sometimes locks David inside of the bathroom for hours at a time and subjects him to the fumes that are inside of Clorox. At one point, he is even forced to drink ammonia. David has 2 younger brothers whom get treated fairly better than he does. They are allowed to go outside, eat snacks, watch television, and do all the things that an ordinary young kid does, while David has the pleasure of sitting in the basement (where he sleeps) and observing the fun and excitement. They soon adapt to the fact that David is mistreated, and altogether turn their backs on him. David goes to school with bruises all on his body and the teachers ask questions but are blind to the facts. There is only one person who knows and tries to help David; his father. Although he is scared of Davids mother, he gives David hope and allows him to always know that one day this will all be over. He even goes as far as giving David the treatment that his siblings recieve when his wife is not around. While there are times that David feels that he has nothing to live for, he keeps hope alive. David Pulzer allows you to think outside of the box and step inside the work of a well written novel!
