The Fable, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho was not an appealing book to me. A really good book would grab a readers attention, but this fable had a very dull beginning. The Fable also skips around, which make it hard to follow along. Not giving the characters actual names and stating the exact time period and location also made it hard to follow.
I reccomend this for people who like books with adventure, magic, and inspration to follow their dreams. I do not recommend this for people who do not get into a book unless the beginning hook really gets them and helps them follow the book better.
"To realize one's destiny is a person's only obligation." I believe this quote best describes the main idea of the fable because it is all about finding your destiny.
Santiago, a young shepherd from Spain, sets out to find his treasure at the Pyramids in Egypt. On his adventure he has several encounters with locals, like a gypsy woman, a englishman, a crystal merchant, and the Alchemist. Each of them teach him a moral lesson that encourages him to fufill his dream, and understand that if we search for our destinys, our hearts will show the way.
The Alchemist is un-like any other book I have ever read. The book from what I have read, on a scale from 1 to 10, I'd give the book a 4. The fable has great quotes and lessons to learn from, but it had a terrible hook and made it hard for me to get into.
I think it makes it easier to follow a book if you could visualise what your reading. To improve this fable, I would give the hook more details on how the characters and the places looked and give an exact time period.
