Jeanette Rhoads writes the following about The Child Called It :
A Child Called It

How would you feel if one day your mother loves you and then the next she doesn?t? That is what David Pelzer had to go though. When David was in 1st- 4th grade his mother beat him and did much worse. She abused him physically, emotionally, and mentally. This book takes place in the 1970s. Back then child abuse was nobody?s business expect for the families. Some things David?s mother did must have been remarkably painful, that not even a full grown person could handle; she stabbed him, she made him stay in a bathtub in cold water for hours, put his arm on the stove and burned his arm. But overall I would give this book a 10 because it made me think of how lucky I am not to have a mother like that, and that I don?t have it as worse as I thought I did. If there were something I could change about this book, it would be the way they explained about cleaning his cut. It?s not that it sounded like it would be painful, it had to of been painful, (actually I know it would be) it was very sick, and it brings back memories of my friend?s parents and I know it was for her. If you read this book I guarantee that it will make you feel, think, and change your lifestyle about how you treat people cause you never know what that person is going through at home or so called home!
