Allison writes the following about Out of the Dust :
Out of the Dust is a novel about a girl named Billie Jo. She has a lot of guilt because she thinks she killed her mother and baby brother. She thinks that because Billie Jo went to throw out a pail of kerosene, but her mother was there. So she took the blame. For a while Billie Jo and her dad didn't really talk to each other. She ran away and hopped on a train. As she was riding along, a man hopped on as well. They started to talk til she fell asleep. When she woke up the man was gone and so were her biscuits. Billie Jo found a picture of the man's family. Then she decided to go home. After a little while she met a woman named Louise. Billie Jo likes her at times and does not like her sometimes. I do recommend Out the Dust. I recommend this book to people who like historical fiction. The author, Karen Hesse, makes the characters feel real and likeable. I also like this book because Out of the Dust is an interesting novel. Once you start, you will not be able to put it down until your done.
