Reaching out ot someone can make a world of difference on his or her future. Torey L Hayden, she was a teacher who worked with kids who are emotionally disturbed. She made a big inpact on a little girl named Sheila. A six-year-old who was put into her class, because of her disoder, and hey thought that Torey could get through to her. She didn't listen to anyone. This innocent little girl lived a hard life, that no six year old should have to go through. She grew up in proverty and her mom abandoned her when she was too little to understand. She was left with her alcoholic father who always thought that spanking was the answer to everythinng. Kids don't know how lucky they are to have parents who care about them and their future, until they actually read this story.
A teacher who sacrifices a lot just to reach one child, Torey Hayden could fit under that category. She inspires teacher to keep on teaching. Even though they feel like giving up on their student, because they feel like the can't reach them.
Torey Hayden is faced witha difficult decision, either she could stick be her principles or change the way she handles things. Just what does she do? If she changes the way she handles things then she would have a higher chance of reaching out to Sheila. Have you ever put your whole heart into something and then finally achieved it? In this book the characters did the same in this book.
This book is very inspiring. It sits up good examples, to have compassion for other people, and you don't even have to know the person, personally to care about their well fair. This book is filled with a lot of emotions; some parts of this book may make you cry a little, because of the content. The words the author used are very descriptive. When you read this book you actually feel like you're going throgh the same experience along with Sheila. It make you want to reach out to her, and let her know that everything is going to be okay.
This book is a good book for young adolescence to read. It's a very well written piece. It has descriptive language; therefore it creats a mental picture in the readers mind. I guess that is the reason why it keeps the reader keep on reading the book. This feeling gets them hooked! When you rea this book you could feel a this power generating through you whole body. It teaches young people like me that we are lucky to have a teacher in our lives that care about our future. This book teaches you that you could do anything in the world if you just had faith in yourself. It makes you want to go the extra mile to help a person in need.
This book reminds me of The Skin I'm In, because the little girl in the story was kind of in the same situation as Sheila. None liked her, because she didn't where the chothes that was in style at the time. And in Sheila's case none liked her, because she was enotionall unbalanced. People didn't take the time to get to know them, they just judged them. Both of the authors make the reader interested in their book, because they make it easy to relate things that are going on around you, to what is going on in the story.
I rate this book a 9, because this book is insightful ans descibes the characters rolls in a meaningful way. This book has a lot of supporting details. It brings a good meaning to what important rolls teachers play in our every day lives. I love the illustration on the cover of the book. The cover is the first thing that drew my attention. It has kind of a mysterious look to it. It looks like the little girl is in need of someone special. It gets you wondering what is going to go on in the story.
If I could change anything about this book, I would want to make the book longer, because I am wondering how Sheila turned out? And if Torey her teacher who made a difference in her life, made her want to become a teacher? Maybe Sheila wanted to do for childeren as Torey did for her. I wonder if she kept in touch with Torey? After all Torey was the reason why she has a future these day.
