This book is not very good. It kind of makes hispanics look dumb and acts on the stereotype that we don't know English very well. That is simply not true. I am worried that this book will give people the wrong idea of Hispanics. Another thing I have a problem with in this book is that some things don't get resolved or at least not right away.
************************SPOILER ALERT**********************
For instance when it is her first day at work and she kisses the old Asian man on the and then he plants one on her lips., it doesn't say what happens next. Does she punch him? Call the cops? Old men aren't supposed to be kissing young girls. It just leaves you hanging.
********************END SPOILER ALERT*********************
Last problem is the dialogue. I don't think it sounds natural. I know Im not a little Latino girl in the 60's, but my Mom was and she agrees the dialogue is a little hokey. "Your mammas frijoles" that's horrible! Beans are not an insult! What's up with that?
In conclusion this book was horrible and offfers nothing. I wish. The idea of the book is a good one. This book was just so bad and almost unreadable. I wish I could have made the score a -100. That is not hyperbole! Im serious!
