Objectives :

Instructional Goals: Goal 3,4 Students will use ordered pairs to identify and locate points on a grid.
Cognitive: Students will think which direction they head to find the points on the grid where Nemo is hiding.
Affective: Students will cooperate with each other.
Psychomotor: Students will randomly come up to the grid to place markers on it.
Rationale: This lesson helps students use a map or plot ordered pairs on a grid.

Materials :

  • 1) Grid sheets with coordinates
  • 2) Class grid with coordinates
  • 3) Markers (foam fish)

Introductory Questions :

  • : Assess prior knowledge. Explain what a grid is and how they are going to plot the pairs.
  • review the directions.North, South, East, and West.

Introductory Activity :

5 minutes Activity: demonstrate how to play the game with several students.

Body :

25 minutes Activity: Randomly have a student hide Nemo. The student writes the ordered pairs on a sheet of paper. Players take turns guessing what the two points are. (Such as, A-6)The student who hid "Nemo" can only give directions such as: North, South, East, or West. Each guess is marked on the grid with a foam fish.(So they know that is not where it is) The play continues till Nemo is found then that person hides Nemo

Conclusion Activity :

Divide into groups; pass out fish crackers and basic grid sheets. (Letters on the side numbers accross the top)Students take turns hiding Nemo and they use the crackers for markers. They can eat them later.

Teacher will observe each student to be sure they know the directions North, South, East and West, how to sort, classify and graph.
